When I was a teenager all I wanted was to be a model. My parents sent me to Barbizon, but I soon found out that models were very slim and tall. I was short and curvy. Not the model type…
By the time I graduated high school, my focus shifted to fashion designing. The obstacle there was that I could not draw but sticks with arms and legs. I took an art course, but all that did was get the teacher frustrated. I decided to change careers. I just could not draw…
I went back to school to finish what I originally had started… So much for creativity… I began a career as a full-charge bookkeeper and by the time I graduated college, I was working in the accounting field…
I went to school part-time and worked full-time and received BA in accounting fifteen years later. What an accomplishment… I thought I would never finish… I was a single mom and the bills needed to get paid so my creative side went into storage…
Now that I’m older and I’m finally starting to feel somewhat free, I can now focus on me. My kids are all grown-up and I’m at a point in my life I can do what I want. I still have to work and cannot give it all up to follow my dreams, but I can make it happen little by little….
This blog has given me freedom of expression… It has woken my creative side again… Who knows what I can become.. My life after fifty is great…. It’s all about me, me, and me…..
Thanks for stopping by my blog(s). Your bio strikes a chord with me though I’m not 50 yet. (I think midlife crisis has already descended upon me… 😛 ) Good luck and have loads of fun channeling your creativity!

I nominated you for the Daydreamer Award because I admire your creativity, and think your response would be interestigng and inspiring.. It’s kind of different from other awards, which is why I participated, but if you choose not to take part, I understand. Here’s the link to my post: https://cardamonefive.wordpress.com/2015/03/10/daydreamer-award/.

Hi Lori!
What else can I say… I reached my fifties two years ago and I have so many things to do… in my mind!
But instead of thinking about what to do better… DO!
Good luck and keep on blogging!

I’m trying and I’m doing, but nothing that has to do with work… I don’t want to wait until retirement just in case something happens… I’m living it up now… Thanks and good luck to you too…

Dear Lumar,
It takes some of us longer than others to figure out who we are, doesn’t it? I think I truly found myself in my fifties, too. I’m a bit farther along now. 😉
Keep on the journey, it’s worth it.

Thanks for stopping by Intricate Purpose and liking my Travel Theme post on Trees! GOOD JOB finding a way to channel your creative side; no matter the classification we hold in our careers, our brains have an expressive, creative side that we must give space to (if we hope to live as healthily as possible).

Haha! I went to Barbizon too! I still have the pictures they took of me where I look like a hussy – they piled so much makeup on me, which I guess was very 1980’s 🙂 I went on to become an accountant as well and get my CPA – that is still what I’m doing although now I’m itching for a change (I’m 47 so probably a mid-life thing too!)

Wow… Never met someone that went to Barbizon… I probably atended right around that time too…
I’m trying to prepare for retirement by doing lots of creative stuff… I haven’t leaned towards one thing yet… Trying to find something I truly like and want to persue…

I can certainly relate to your statement about blogging opening up your creativity again. That has been true for me too. And also to several other things you said!

Sounds like you were always a creative soul, but just weren’t sure how to express it. Many girls like the idea of being a model or fashion designer, but turn their attention to other pursuits when reality sets in. I also find blogging a fun creative pursuit, in the third age ( over fifties club), that replaces the diaries I once wrote.
