In the Spirit of Autumn

I’m trying very hard to get into the spirit of autumn. It is awfully hard though…  Florida is not conducive to the season… Thank goodness for the inspiration I receive from fellow bloggers…  I take comfort in the stories and the gorgeous pictures on a daily basis…

I was going through my blog friend Shirley’s wonderful decorating site (Hospitality Design: http://www.housepitalitydesigns.com/2014/10/01/another-porch-dressed-for-fall/) and she inspired me to put some autumn decorations in my front door entry way.  The problem living in Florida is that the pumpkins rot in a week, the flowers take about two weeks to wilt and die, and the hay, as you can see from the pictures, gets tampered with.  Some animal ate through the plastic and made a mess.  I’m hoping it didn’t like the hay and come back for some more…

I had to settle for ceramic pumpkins.  Due to weather conditions, plastic pumpkins are not the most advantageous… We may get a storm in October and the plastic pumpkins may fly away to Kansas…  The flowers are out of the question…  Not willing to spend the money for a two-week display and plastic or silk are not my favorite outside decorations.

My best shot at decorating for Halloween and autumn… Promise not to laugh too hard at the chewed hay…

My other decorations throughout my small front garden…

If you hadn’t said anything about the hay, I would have assumed it was supposed to look like that 🙂
I’d say you captured the season very well!

I love your garden and your Autumn display! Autumn is very real and present here in England and I am ashamed to say that I and many of my friends dread its arrival and the dark winter nights which follow. Given that we are actually lucky to experience different seasons, I will take your post as inspiration to appreciate the variation the arrival of Autumn brings.

New England is so lovely this time of year, but as you said, winter months can be brutal… Decorating for autumn has inspired me, but not willing to move back to the cold to experience the four seasons… Thanks for stopping by, Karen…
