Welcome to the largest city in Turkey with a population of 13.9 million… How would you like to live in the second largest city in the world? Lots of people everywhere! It’s chaotic, but then again so is New York… Lovely sights to see and explore… Enjoy…
Blue Mosque – Built between 1609 and 1616 by Mimar Sinan and still popularly used today. I was expecting a blue Mosque, but instead the interior is adorned with blue tiles and that is how the name came about… Majestic place to visit…
Church of Hagia Sophia – Was built-in 323 AD, but was destroyed by fire. Rebuilt in the 6th Century and was converted to a Mosque in 1453 when the Ottomans conquered Constantinople. You can still see the Christian images and influence throughout the mosque…
The Grand Bazaar – Is home to over 5,000 shops… Can be a bit overwhelming with so many people looking for bargains, but the place is fascinating… Can find a little bit of everything…
A few blocks down is the Spice Market… Great for buying spices, teas, and Turkish Delights…
Sights from around Istanbul…
Oh, what a lovely post! I loved the bazaar and those decorative bowls.
