Daily Prompt: Time After Time

This prompt was perfect for me.  We made birthday celebrations a tradition in my family which we try to uphold; otherwise, we would never see other.

My brother and I try to get together throughout the year and what better way than to celebrate all our birthdays or holidays. There’s no set way of doing it…  We usually alternate house or restaurant.   We all have input in the decision-making and we all chip in and help…  No one person gets stuck with it all…

And here’s how it goes in my family…

  • January – My grandson Tyler’s birthday which we always celebrate in December since I’m up north for the holiday’s…  Other than that, January is a pretty quiet month…  Getting use to the idea of a new year…
  • February – We celebrate both my birthday and my niece, Gabriela’s.  We have a nice dinner and always get cake…  We have many other birthdays in February…  My cousin, husband, and son also have some type of celebration since all three birthdays fall in the same month.  Very costly month for everyone…
  • March or April – We do the Easter Sunday dinner.  Last year, we had a nice barbecue and invited additional family members.  It was a lot of fun so we may do it again this year.
  • May – We may get together just because or to celebrate Mother’s Day…  It all depends what everyone is doing with their respective families…
  • June – Sister-in-law, Judy’s birthday and also, Father’s Day.  This year we will be celebrating Judy’s fiftieth birthday.  She never mentions her age and I have plenty of fiftieth gags which she is getting whether she turns fifty or not…
  • July – I fly home for my daughter’s birthday and if I can’t make it, then we celebrate the fourth of July with a barbecue either in the yard or out somewhere…  Always followed by plenty of fireworks…
  • August – Again, we combine two birthday’s in one.  My mom, Alice and brother, Al celebrate together.  We usually end up getting two cakes because my brother likes chocolate and my mom can’t eat it…  Fun times…
  • September – This month is a hopping…  Three birthday celebrations…  My son, Alexander; my grandson, Sean; and my nephew, Christian all in the same month…  They leave me broke…  I may or may not have enough left for Christmas after this month…
  • October – One much-needed break…
  • November – Big family gathering for Thanksgiving.  I usually have it at my house and I try not to put up Christmas decorations prior to Thanksgiving…  I like to enjoy each individual holiday, but I start getting very excited over Christmas…
  • December – Back to birthdays…  It is my niece, Judith birthday and the Bravo family Pre-Christmas get-together…  I always fly home for Christmas; therefore, we celebrate early before I go home.  Celebrations continue throughout the month with family, friends, and the grandkids.  This is my favorite month of the year… Get to enjoy the kids and grandkids and see friends which I haven’t seen all year…

I’m busy as a bee and I like it…

I am grateful for having them around now. For many years it was just my kids and I so I try to get together with them as much as possible… I do miss my children dearly, but they also get a part of me when I’m with them… Happy Friday…. Love, Lor
