WEEKLY WRITING CHALLENGE: THROUGH THE DOOR

door

I go up a flight of stairs and see a wooden door with raw iron hinges.  The door is big and mysterious looking.  I’m curious and want to see inside.  I try to open it, but have a hard time getting it to budge.  It finally flings open, and I land on the dirt…  I get up and start cleaning the dirt off my long skirt.  I notice I’m wearing brown leather sandals, not what I was wearing prior to stepping in.  I’m now a peasant from the Medieval-Renaissance era.  The skirt of my dress is olive-green with a thick black leather belt tightly fitting underneath my breast and the white blouse is off the shoulders exposing my nice olive skin.  I look and feel different, but know it’s me.

I look up and see beautiful field of the reddest poppy flowers…  I’m in awe…  I start hopping and dancing towards the flower field.  I spread my arms out as far as I can and feel the wind on my face.  My wavy blond hair bouncing free…  I’m alive and feeling liberated…  Don’t want this moment to end…  I lay down to rest and fall asleep.  When I wake-up I’m in bed and my mind is in a fog, but immediately reality sets in…
