Goals or Resolutions

Last year I listed a couple of goals I wanted to accomplish during the year.  Most had to do with house redecorating…  The last few didn’t come to mind until the middle of the year or so.  I try not to give myself a long list; otherwise, I get too overwhelmed and never complete any…

Here are a few of my 2012 accomplishments:

The first things I wanted to do in 2012 was to remove the upstairs rugs, tile the floors, remove the popcorn ceilings, and paint. Huge undertaking for just two people to accomplish; therefore, we decided to re-do a room every other month until finished.

The removal of rugs wasn’t all that bad.  The tile work was done by a friend; therefore, that didn’t take long and wasn’t too expensive.  The worst part was removing the popcorn ceiling.  The removal itself wasn’t difficult, but sanding the ceiling before painting was a nightmare.  Dust scatters all over the place and dusting becomes unbearable…  I was cleaning for some time afterwards.  Not a pretty sight, but the ceilings do look outstanding…

We also redecorated once the floors and painting were done in each room.  The computer room got new look with book shelves, blinds, and valance.  I finally got a place for my books and my vintage purses.  Most of the accessories are either in gold, black, or red.

The spare bedroom just needed new paint and blinds.  We call it the blue room, but the walls have been painted in both beige and light blue.  The artwork was done by me.  I decoupage a couple of paintings for each side of the bed and both came out pretty good…  In my opinion, the room is nicely done…

The master bedroom is my favorite room in the entire house.  It was done in tones of various greens and brown.  Moved furniture around and purchased a few throw pillows and replaced blinds.  Wa la!!!  Done…

Once the upstairs was completed we continued with the downstairs…   By the middle of October we had renovated most of townhouse except for a few large items which will require more than our efforts.  My place looks so pretty and tidy… It was a huge undertaking, but didn’t put a big dent in our pockets.…

Once I completed what I set out to do in the home, I added my next two goals to my list:  Meditation and writing…

Meditation always gave me peace, but I found every excuse possible not to sit still for ten minutes.  I finally decided it was time to find my inner wisdom…  I’ve been meditating for the last couple of months and I’m still going strong.  I enjoy the me time and the peace it brings.  I tend to find my own answers while meditating and don’t have the need to bother anyone with my issues.  Great way to learn about myself…

I also began to write again.  It started around September by jotting down a few things daily and finally I had the need to expand.  I thought about journaling as in the past, but a friend suggested blogging.  Instead of journaling, I’m blogging…  How great is that…

That pretty much does it for my 2012 goals.  I haven’t given much thought about 2013’s resolutions/goals yet…  Maybe, I’ll redo the kitchen which needs new cabinets or change the floors downstairs or bathroom vanities.  Perhaps, I’ll get on that much-needed diet or even begin an exercise program…  I’ll be contemplating what next in the next couple of weeks…  Nothing is set in stone…  I have an entire lifetime to figure it out…  One thing’s for sure, I will continue to blog and meditate and the rest should follow…

Sorry about my pictures…  Not very good at it and I usually forget the pics on the details.   That may be a new 2013 goal – Class on blogging; class on photography…  Also, never thought about taking before pictures…  Next time…

Your rooms look great! I’m bad with pictures too, but I’ve decided that photography is not a priority for me, so my bad pictures will have to do. Good luck with your new goals. It looks like you accomplished everything that you set out to do last year!

It was a lot of work, but worth it once it was all over…
