Something old, something new
Something borrowed, something blue
And a silver sixpence in her shoe.

Wedding traditions…  Said to have started in the Victorian Era, but according to the Bravo clan – All are connected to good fortune for the bride. Something “old” is said to symbolize continuity with the bride’s family and the past.  Something “new” means the bride will have god luck in her new life.  Something “borrowed” is usually an item from someone close to the bride whose good fortune from their married life will carry over to the new bride. Something “blue” is connected to fidelity.  And a “silver sixpence” in the bride’s shoe represents wealth and security….

At my wedding, the rebel in me didn’t want to partake in any old traditions, but learning the significance of this custom helped me decide to go ahead with it and abide by the rule.  Anything that can bring luck can’t be all that bad…
